This is a shot taken in Calvert, TX over a year ago. I found it when I was going though my hard drive, deleting photos that I wonder why I kept in the first place. (You wouldn’t believe how many RAW files containing nothing but pure black I had sitting on my drive.) I freed up a ton of hard drive space, and discovered a few shots that I think are worth giving a second look.

Details & larger version at my photoblog.
(I think I need a better model.)

Taken with my Samsung Sync, processed in Photoshop CS3. This little phone takes surprisingly decent photos. Larger version here.

I spent some time this weekend experimenting with off camera lighting. Above is one my more successful attempts. This was shot on my coffee table, the top of which is frosted glass. The flash sat on a shelf directly below the subject.
Setup: 20D on tripod, 100mm macro lens. Lighting consisted of 580EX off camera (connected to Off Camera Shoe Cord 2, attached to ebay wireless receiver – to prevent random firing). 580EX at 1/128th power. Homemade snoot attached to flash to contain the light. Piece of paper hand held above the subject as a makeshift reflector. I still had to use a little shadow recovery in PS to recover some detail on the top (my piece of paper wasn’t very reflective).
For awesome lighting information and tutorials, check out Strobist.com. I will warn you though, the site is addictive.

Here is a close-up of one of the longhorn statues outside of Art Center Waco, which is hosting the Steve McCurry photo exhibit. Larger version here.
Some photos from the Ingram Hill show Friday night. More over @ Flickr.

I decided to check out the Northgate Music Fest this year and try my hand at some concert photos. It was fun, but unfortunately the bands didn’t have much of an audience since everyone was watching the game. The festival ends Saturday night / Sunday morning and the three day pass was only $25. More photos to come.
