iTunes Still Not Working
Posted on June 1st, 2007 in Apple | No Comments »
This weekend I updated to the latest version of iTunes. After the upgrade I had the occasional issue accessing my shopping cart. It did eventually work though. On Tuesday I updated to 7.2 so I could check out the DRM free tracks. Since then I can browse the iTunes store, but cannot access the shopping cart at all. I was trying to download the free track, which is DRM free, but I can’t get to my cart to actually download the file. Every time I try I get the message below.
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.
My network connection is perfectly fine. Even the iTunes diagnostics says so:
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
This problem is evidentially not anything new to iTunes users on the Windows platform, but seems to be more widespread than before the 7.2 release. Unfortunatly, it doesn’t appear that Apple has responded to the problem. They should maybe try a different error message, since my computer has no network issues. If it is due to the traffic on the store, they should say that, not send people on a wild chase thinking something is wrong with their computer/network connection.
If it doesn’t start working soon, I’ll reinstall the whole thing.
Update: Everything just started working on June 2nd. Weird, but good.
Apple releases iTunes Plus - DRM Free Music
Posted on May 30th, 2007 in Apple, DRM | No Comments »
I was wondering if they were going to make the May release date. Of course this comes one day after I upgrade my iTunes so I get to upgrade again as 7.2 is required to access iTunes Plus. Read more at TUAW.
Of course, my enthusiasm has been weakened after reading this. My name in the song’s metadata? While on one hand I don’t care (I don’t share music), on the other it’s kinda creepy. Update: The user’s name and email have always been embedded in a purchased iTunes track. The way things were being reported, it appeared as if this was something new to iTunes Plus.
I was trying to download the free track of the day, which is DRM free, but keep getting an error when viewing my shopping cart.
